What Gordon Ramsay does on Hell’s Kitchen is completely different than what a panel of judges do on shows like SYTYCD, even Top Chef. He not only judges, but is completely involved in the whole process. He is working with them, not just watching them do their thing. They have to do it his way, that is their challenge. He is very fair and calm during the individual challenges, but when they are in the restaurant, it’s his game, and it has to be played his way.
